Fiber reinforced injection molded components present unique challenges, such as characterizing the stochastics of the principal fiber orientations spatially throughout a part, mapping those principal fiber orientations onto a structural mesh, and finally developing and applying multiscale material models to obtain stress/strain results at the constituent-level of the reinforced injection molded component to simulate its behavior.
In this presentation, we will overview the Altair HyperWorks solution to all these challenges. Specifically, an overview of HyperMesh’s capabilities to map Moldflow and Moldex3D fiber orientation tensor results onto a structural mesh. Followed by an overview of Multiscale Designer’s capabilities to develop and apply multiscale material models to the simulation of any reinforced injection molded component.

Jeff is currently Senior Technical Director at Altair Engineering helping Aerospace industry customers implement design optimization and multiscale technologies into current and future airframe designs. Jeff oversees Multiscale Designer’s product management at Altair, and he’s is also an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington teaching Composite Design
